A custom hockey uniform should do more than put a team’s colors on the ice. It should feel like it belongs to the program. For the Dayton Flyers club hockey program, that meant starting with a blank canvas.
Akros Athletic worked with Dayton to develop its new white uniform completely from the ground up, creating an original visual identity rather than adapting an existing jersey concept. From the primary crest to the striping system and individual uniform details, each element was developed specifically for Dayton and then brought to life through our ProBuild Cut/Sew hockey uniform platform.
Building the Dayton Identity
The design process began by establishing a look that could immediately feel connected to Dayton while giving the hockey program an identity of its own. Akros developed the primary logo along with a unique striping pattern that carries consistently across the jersey, shells, and socks.
That consistency was important. Instead of treating the jersey as a standalone piece, the entire uniform was designed as one system. The placement and proportions of the striping, crest, numbers, and supporting details were considered together so that the finished kit would have a cohesive presence from every angle.

From Custom Design to Cut/Sew Construction
Once the visual direction was established, the design moved into production on the Akros Athletic ProBuild Cut/Sew platform.
Unlike a fully sublimated jersey where much of the visual design is printed directly into the fabric, custom cut/sew hockey jerseys are constructed through individual fabric panels, sewn elements, and applied decoration. That construction method gives designers another dimension to work with. Striping can become part of the physical construction of the uniform, while crests, numbers, and other elements add texture and depth.
For Dayton, the approach allowed the original design to extend beyond the jersey. Custom cut/sew hockey shells and socks were developed alongside it, creating a complete ProBuild hockey uniform rather than a collection of disconnected pieces.
It is a process where small details matter. Panel alignment, stripe placement, stitching, decoration, material selection, and fit all contribute to how the uniform ultimately looks and performs on the ice.
More Than Manufacturing a Jersey

We were involved in creating the identity itself, then translating that identity into a physical uniform engineered for competition.

A concept has to look good digitally, but it also has to make sense once it becomes fabric. Lines need to connect across panels. Logos need to reproduce correctly.
